From Norwegian innovation to global pioneer

Ten years ago, a handful of Norwegian farmers tested a fence they couldn't see. The idea was simple: livestock should be able to graze freely without physical fences, and the farmer should control everything from a phone. Today, Nofence is established in six markets.

Nofence created the world's first virtual fence

The idea of virtual fencing for livestock was born in the west coast of Norway, and this is where Nofence started. The animal wears a collar, the farmer draws the pasture in an app, and an audio signal teaches the animal to turn back at the boundary.

Today, tens of thousands of farmers across Europe and North America use the technology, with collars for cattle, sheep and goats on the same platform.

Rapid expansion into new countries

Nofence has offices in Molde, Trondheim and Oslo, and is also established in Sweden, the UK, Ireland, Spain and the US. The US is the priority market, and there are animals wearing Nofence collars in every state, even Hawaii.

Every time a new subsidiary is set up, accounting, payroll and local requirements all need to be in place at the same time. In Norway and Sweden, Nofence gets help from Amesto AccountHouse, and in most countries outside the Nordics, they are supported by Amesto Global.

The company grows one market at a time, and farmers around the world are waiting their turn. With a partner that has local expertise in accounting, payroll, finance and tax in each country, Nofence can spend its time on the market and its customers.

A partner with local expertise

The biggest benefit of using Amesto's services has been how quickly we've been able to get started in new countries.

More than just accounting and payroll

For a growing business with subsidiaries in many countries, it's important for Nofence to have a provider that understands the business, not just the accounting rules. They have access to experts they can consult when questions fall outside day to day operations.

Scalable finance services

Month end closing, VAT, payroll and reporting need to be delivered on time. At the same time, Nofence has a dedicated core team at Amesto that knows the company well, with the option to scale up with the right expertise when activity peaks.

From the fence to the whole farm

It's not every day a company from Nordmøre creates an entirely new category. Nofence did it with the world's first virtual fence, and today animals with Nofence collars graze everywhere from rural Norway to Hawaii.

The company isn't resting on its laurels either. With the N3 cattle collar, Nofence is moving from fencing to complete grazing management, and new markets are lining up. A company growing this fast needs a finance function that can keep pace. New subsidiaries, multiple currencies and different regulations call for a partner that grows at the same rate.

A close and successful partnership

Nofence shows that a Norwegian idea can work all over the world

When a company sets up in a new country, payroll, VAT and reporting have to work from day one, while the group also needs one consolidated view. That's where we make a difference, so Kristian and his team can focus their energy on the farmers and the next chapter.
