A Triple Bottom Line, not a profit-only bottom line.

Amesto has worked on the social side of business since 2012, driving economic, social and environmental performance together rather than treating them as separate concerns. That thinking led us to redirect what had been an exclusively profit-focused mindset toward one that gives equal weight to People and the Planet alongside Profit, an approach known as the Triple Bottom Line (3BL).

The Group's owners have implemented a 3P bonus model that measures every company not just on financial performance, but on sustainability performance as well.

Sustainable management

All three, or the result isn't fully obtained.

Our managers deliver against all three parameters of the Triple Bottom Line: People, Planet and Profit. If financial targets are met but the objectives for People and Planet fall below the minimum requirement, we don't consider the result fully achieved.

The ambition is for this to create a chain reaction, so that every level of the organisation is challenged to work on all three P's, not just the one that shows up on a P&L. Our managers consistently say that being measured on more than the bottom line changes how they think about the business day to day.

How do we measure?

People, Planet and Profit, weighted equally over time.

People is measured through monthly internal employee surveys and customer Net Promoter Score (NPS). Planet is measured against strategy and goal attainment for specific social and environmental value-creating projects. Profit is measured on financial results (EBITDA).

Each company's managers report on all three P's to the Board of Directors, and the ambition is for all three to be weighted equally in relation to goal attainment over time.

Small steps

You don't need to save the world tomorrow.

Sustainability is often about the small choices made every day, not one big solution. Extending the service life of a laptop, or reusing hardware for a new employee instead of buying new, both reduce waste and cost at the same time.

The same goes for travel. Video meetings that were already becoming normal in working life protect the environment from unnecessary travel, and remote work reduces the need for large office space. Many sustainability measures turn out to be cost reductions as well, so a focus on a business's own footprint is also a focus on cost.

Our commitments

Anchored in the UN Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Amesto has been a member of the UN Global Compact since 2012, and we commit to preparing and submitting an annual Communication on Progress (CoP) report.

We also use the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for our sustainability projects, focusing our group companies on the goals most relevant to our own services.
